What I love about Gordon's work is its simplicity and largeness. After watching him in action, I'm an even bigger fan. Be sure and watch the video below of Gordon at work with his oil bars. It's awesome. I wish I could watch more.

00/00/0000, 00:00 | Original Site: katiedidWow, what a week! An historic election just started things off.
But now the economy is throwing me for a loop and there are some big things for me to think about at the moment. So I am sorry about the lack of posts the last couple of days. I hope to be back with some exciting things next week!
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND, NO MATTER WHAT'S SHAKIN'!
P.S. Many of you appreciated this photo as much as I did. You can catch more from robin jones1 Flickr photo stream here.
Carolyne Roehm and her Passion for Blue and White
00/00/0000, 00:00 | Original Site: The Peak of ChicI just returned from San Francisco where I attended a lecture given by Carolyne Roehm. Held in conjunction with the San Francisco Antiques Show, the lecture, entitled "All Roads Lead to Roehm" (very clever!), was a celebration of all things blue and white, including her new book A Passion for Blue and White
In both her lecture and the book, Roehm champions the versatility of this classic color combination. First, you have an array of shades with which to work- from icy blue to cornflower to navy and beyond. And blue and white also works well with other colors too such as pink, yellow, and red.
I believe that many of us think of blue and white as being casual, and it certainly can be. Really, what is chicer than a white blouse with a pair of blue jeans? But Roehm also makes the case for blue and white to be used in elegant and formal settings too. I suppose you can say that blue and white is like the perfect date- you can take it anywhere and it will fit in marvelously. No need to put lipstick on the pig! (Just kidding.)
I have to say that I admire Roehm's efforts at putting her passion into images and words. Roehm's love affair with blue and white began many years ago, and years later it is still going strong. While other colors might stir my passion more, I think I might be coming around to the whole blue and white thing.
Joe Nye New York will be hosting an afternoon tea in honor of Carolyne Roehm and her new book on Wednesday, November 5 at the Joe Nye New York showroom. To RSVP, contact Christina Juarez, tel 917-463-3685. Wish I could join you!

Blue and white can be laid back and informal

Or it can be quite grand and proper

Blue and white can be exuberant

And it's also quite breezy

And you know what? It looks quite smashing on a cake too.

: : I like these romantic bedrooms at skönahem.se [a Swedish interior design magazine]. we just bought the IKEA bedframe in the first photo. now I need to find an old chair with some character.... And I like the idea of lavender in the bedroom.site we’re psyched about: novelaction.com
00/00/0000, 00:00 | Original Site: shelterrific
Not that we want booksellers to suffer any more than predicted this holiday season, but this site, novelaction.com, provides a great way to make sure you always have something new to read. The site is devoted to exchanging used books. Here’s how it works: You go to the site and browse through the pages and pages of available titles. Once you find a few that you want, check the boxes, and then commit to send in that same number of books. After your already-read, no-longer-needed books have been received, the new reads you want will be shipped out to you. It’s almost like a Netflix for used books. All you pay for is shipping — $4.80 for up to 12 books. Click here to see more!

00/00/0000, 00:00 | Original Site: desire to inspireI took Friday off from work to start the stairs and I managed to get them pretty much done. A couple paint touch ups and a few nail holes left to fill but I am too tired to finish it. I thought I'd show some before photos first so you can see what I've been living with since December. This first photo is what the stairs looked like for about a month after I moved in.
I ripped the carpeting off because it was so dirty (from moving in a snowstorm) and not installed properly - I almost took a tumble down them a few times. This is the horror that was underneath. Linoleum tiles, aluminum trim and lots of paint splotches.
I am dying to paint all the floors in my house white, so the stairs were no exception. I painted them white, and the staircase is now so much brighter than it was. Now if I could just figure out how to get them to clean themselves...

Here is why I am too tired to finish the stairs. Below are photos of the remnants of what was on the floor in my damp and leaky basement (there's more that has to come out but I'm too tired and need help with the rest). I am so pissed off that someone was stupid enough to decide to hide leaks by putting down layer upon layer of plywood on a damp floor. The smell once the top layer of linoleum was removed was so disgusting. The wood in some places was BLACK and crumbly. I am afraid my cats and I will get sick from the mold. I wore a mask while I was working down there but the smell was so bad I can still smell it, and I feel kind of nauseous. There are alot of annoying and poorly executed things I keep finding around this house, but this one definitively tops the list of bad judgement.

"Laughingstock: Humor in Art & Craft"
Exhibition: November 15, 2008 - December 23, 2008
Pittsburgh, PA
We explore how artists use irony, goofiness, satire, and sarcasm in their work. Can humor and satire stimulate laughter as well as serve as a vehicle to explore serious subjects, such as feminism, the natural environment, the excesses of consumer culture, religion, sexuality, social injustice, and war ? Can artwork be "funny" and critical at the same time? How does the artist's choice of materials affect the outcome so that the work is perceived as "funny"? What are the boundaries in humor and who gets to decide what these are? Are there topics we are not allowed to laugh about ?

00/00/0000, 00:00 | Original Site: ::Surroundings::
A few weeks ago I was helping my bffff Beth set up for a party at her house. She had to make a dump run and I was happy to accompany her. Our dump has a great section for usable discards known as the Duxbury Mall (humorous as we have no malls here), or alternatively the Knick Knack Shack. Our Mall is so popular that there is actually a time limit for "shopping". I have trash pick up service and don't have a dump sticker - so I never get to go there - which is why I was happy to go with her. Among the various "treasures" were this pair of white wooden shadow boxes that are meant to be hung on the wall. But, I thought, hmm... what could I make from these!

Marrakech: and telling you what I wanted to tell you………..
00/00/0000, 00:00 | Original Site: My MarrakeshI wanted to tell you something. I wanted to tell you that we are out of money. I wanted to tell you that we are limping along, that we are crawling at a snail’s pace, that we’re inching like inch worms. I wanted to tell you that when the stock market crashed, we crashed, too. I wanted to tell you that I am not sure when Peacock Pavilions is opening. But it won’t be March 2009. It will be sometime, sometime after that. I wanted to tell you that I don’t know when it will be. I wanted to tell you that I am disappointed, that I am very disappointed. But I also wanted to tell you that none of it matters; that it’s just money - it’s not more than that. I wanted to tell you that I feel lucky for what I have. I wanted to tell you that I know that there are so many who have nothing, who have had everything taken from them. Including their dignity. I wanted to tell you that I think that this was meant to be. And I am even thankful for it. Because nothing good -- yes, nothing really good -- should ever come too easily. I wanted to tell you that I am okay. I wanted to tell you that I am really okay most of the time. Except for when I am not. But those times are not so many.
PS Many thanks to the gypsygirl for inspiring this post.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, many design bloggers have decided to post Pink today. So, in support of a very worthy cause and in the spirit of camaraderie, I decided to mine my trove of vintage magazines for pink images. We've all heard that pink is a universally flattering color, and if it works on your face then why not on your walls, beds, and furniture too? And pink is not just for women either. Men seem to love it too.

Lauren Marsden is a talented Victoria artist who creates some of the most amazing artistic creations I have ever seen. Her indoor/outdoor carpeting gallery space of Home Sweet Home (above) exhibit blew me away. Her latest artistic endeavour is called Territorial Knittings... she is knitting street sign covers for every street she has lived on in Victoria. The pattern is an exact duplicate of the sign itself... very clever, very creative!

00/00/0000, 00:00 | Original Site: MadeByGirlTrend alert ... yellow Ferrari in living room
00/00/0000, 00:00 | Original Site: desire to inspire
Talk about home styling for real estate photo shoots. Hire in beautiful furniture or seriously declutter your own - check! Hang some dresses in the walk-in dressing room to show you have taste and style (but a VERY limited wardrobe) - check! Park the yellow Ferrari in the glass garage - check! I think this is a definite decorating trend. Here in Australia where house prices are seriously over-inflated the Ferrari is definitely cheaper than this warehouse conversion.
Hahahaha! I knew I'd get that car wrong. I squinted so long at the photos and swore I saw a rearing stallion but alas, as anonymous so kindly pointed out, it is a Lamborghini Gallardo and a bull! I really should change the title to "Trend alert ... yellow phallic symbol on wheels in living room" :)

5 Questions for Jessie Randall, Designer, Loeffler Randall
1. So, is picking out plumbing hardware as challenging as churning out a collection?
Picking out plumbing hardware is the worst. We spent our Christmas vacation buried in plumbing fixture catalogues (Davis & Warshow, McMaster). My husband picked out all kinds of fancy fixtures, but my most favorite are the industrial toilet and urinal we put in the boys’ bathroom. They are so simple and functional. They look better than any of the other stuff, in my opinion. The renovation was a massive project. We have a lot on our plate with the house, the twins and the company. So juggling it all was the hardest part, but it was fun.
2. What one thing do you have to have in your home (even amidst contractors)?
As much natural light as possible.
3. What are you most excited about when the house is complete?
The boys’ room is my most favorite part of the house. I put in a lighted diorama in their room that was modeled off of the one in my friend Bronagh's children’s store in Williamsburg, Sweet William. I also love the color of the walls in the boys’ room, Pensive Sky, a pale grey blue-green that is so calming and relaxing.
4. Taking away anything from the renovation that will infuse your upcoming collections?
I don’t tend to use lots of pattern and print in my collections, but in my house I put up several patterned wallpapers (Osborne & Little, Second Hand Rose, Walnut Wallpaper). I love them and they give so much character to the house. It’s gotten me hooked on prints, so I may incorporate more in my collections.
5. What do you think will be the most often used room of your house?
Who knows? We’ll have to see once we move in. I am guessing it will be one particular area because with two flights of stairs and twins, I am probably going to want to stay put.
