Wires

I just got this book, Core Memory: A Visual Survey of Vintage Computers. It's really visually inspiring (and supremely nerdy), but I love seeing the organization of wires, switches, and buttons! Who knows...I just might make a trip out to visit the Computer History Museum in Silicon Valley to see all these computer dinosaurs.

I am very excited about this decorating idea, since this doesn't fall into the 'traditional' slot yet it has interesting traditional elements in it:-)

Antique ceramic Japanese tiles from Chettinad, look at the interpretation of Goddess Lakshmi!
I completely adore the blue & pink combination. Arrange on your table, float some pink gerberas or lotus if you can get them in glass bowls. I have used simple kerosene lamps to add that white glow to the arrangement and I don't have to worry about it blowing off!

Want to write for Hue?

00/00/0000, 00:00 | Original Site: Hue
I have a request for you all: I am looking for color enthusiasts to write some guest posts for Hue in July while I am moving across the country. If you've considered starting a blog, but don't want to commit to the time it takes to keep it running, or just have some fantastic ideas/ stories/ comments related to color that you'd like to share, please consider contributing! I would need the article(s) with pictures (eye-candy is key!) sometime before the end of June so I could set up the posts to run in July while I'm on the road. Even contributing one post would be fantastic. So, if you are interested, or know someone who might like to get some great exposure, please let me know.

Thanks so much for your help everyone!

Quite the Colorful Family

It comes as no surprise to us that our talented blogger Scott Horne would have an equally creative and gifted sibling.

Ken Horne, brother to Scott, studied drawing, painting, and photography in Los Angeles, London, Burlington, and Denver, where he now maintains a studio.

Because his day job as a child welfare social worker often brings him face-to-face with dark scenarios, Ken infuses his art with light and color.

The artist is inspired by nature, society, and modern design. Ken constantly explores and experiments with line, form, balance, and color.

But, enough from us. Let his stunning work tell the story.

nailing it

upholstered furniture with exposed nails is making another comeback ~ bringing an old-world look into the contemporary furnishings movement. nailhead trim is a decorative accent used to embelish upholstered furniture that accentuates the style of the piece. usually seen on arms and rails, it is commonly used with leather-upholstered furniture, particularly leather sofas, chairs and ottomans. nailhead trim dates back to the period of 1560-1643 and the advent of french country style during the reign of louis XIII. the best-known innovation from this period is the os de mouton chair. that piece marked the introduction of nailhead trim as well as upholstered backs and seats with the popular flame stitch pattern. {info found on frenchheritage.com}

52. Love to write

00/00/0000, 00:00 | Original Site: let your creativity .... FLOW

my first year in law school i worked part time for a great criminal lawyer in the heart of toronto's downtown core. it was my first time working downtown and more than anything i was excited to work in a modern toronto office, so you can imagine my surprise when my new part time boss sat me down in front of an antique type writer instead of the latest mac laptop and told me that this would be my new desk.

my love for our legal system soon faded, but my passion for antiques and that typewriter stayed. in fact, it started to grow and branch out like a wild weed in furtile soil. i had a new passion.

my part time boss had a good reason for sitting me in front of this type writer. it taught me how to be patient with my writings, to think before i acted, control, time management but the most important thing i took from it, it taught me how to appreciate the beauty, style and importance of doing things at my own pace. how rushing or slacking can ruin a great piece of writing - it taught me how to find myself within my writings.

now - almost 7 yrs after the fact, i desire to have a type writer of my own. a writing table in the corner of the room with nothing but my thoughts and an old type writer.

Update

00/00/0000, 00:00 | Original Site: Another Shade of Grey
I want to thank you all for the many comments left. I wasn't feeling well for a time and had a health scare, which turned my attention to things in the "real world". Another Shade of Grey requires a considerable amount of my time and as much as I enjoy it I felt the need to step away for awhile. I don't really know what my plans are for this blog from this point forward, which is why I have hesitated to say anything at all, but I did want to let you know everything is well and I apologize for leaving you hanging. To make amends I share this fabulous hand printed gift wrap via rifferaff. Hope you enjoy! :)

When is too much of a good thing, well, just too much? Never in the case of the portfolio of Dutch photographer Alexander van Berge. Inspirational photo after inspirational photo. Part of the magic is the use of natural light. Part is Alexander's ability to capture the personality of the rooms. Beautiful!

"When people see my work I would like them to smile, to be filled with a rush of warmth that causes their cheeks to turn pink, to giggle?
I want them to feel alive with colour"
Dazzling acrylic paintings by Brandy Saturley of Sol Sugar Designs here in Victoria... I showcased some of her colourful, curvaceous pieces from her Toe collection awhile back.
Literally a neighbour of mine (James Bay... yah!!), Brandy's art is incredibly vibrant and full of exquisite detail. She is inspired by the ocean and the colour blue which resonates as a dance of rigorous patterns throughout her pieces. So lively and whimsical... I adore her work.

From Julie:

We love this idea from Daily Danny, by the irrepressible Danny Seo: lining a pathway with beach rocks painted with luminous glow-in-the-dark paint. During the day, they charge in the sun, and in the evening, they reflect the stored light. A 7-ounce can of Rust-Oleum Glow-in-the-Dark Brush-on Paint is $7.79 at Blick Art Materials.

This is an out & out traditional arrangement. Beautiful green beetle leaves arranged in a circular fashion with festive, cheery yellow marigolds and pink buds giving it that colourful contrast.

In the center is a mini traditional Kerala lamp lit with wicks dipped in oil. Shiny brass diyas complete the outer circle with their festive brightness:-)

See You In The Spring...

Image - Jen Gotch

Earlier this week I posted a beautiful image by Jen Gotch which so many of you loved so to end this week I thought I would post another one I am totally in love with. I absolutely adore the collection of things in this photo and in particular I love the white background with the pops of colour. This photo pretty much sums up my own personal style. As most of you know I love to create rooms with an all white backdrop with lots of colour in the accessories and a few quirky pieces and vintage pieces thrown in. I think I need to put this picture on my inspiration board. I do hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and I look forward to sharing lots of absolutely beautiful things with you next week - the first week of Spring here in Australia!!

Road Trip: Monterey and Carmel

00/00/0000, 00:00 | Original Site: katiedid
We are heading out today to spend the long weekend in Monterey and Carmel, a couple of the most beautifully scenic areas in California:

We will be seeing the famous Lone Cypress tree:

Visiting the Cannery in Monterey:

Shopping. Did you even doubt it?

Hitting the spectacular Monterey Bay Aquarium (I think there is an interiors color scheme here):

I love seeing the Carmel Mission:

And downtown Carmel is full of shopping: art, antiques, boutiques and restaurants (a little spendy all the way around, but sometimes you find a treasure you can't live without!):

Carmel is famous for it's artist colony, and there is no need to wonder why:

We plan to do some of this:

And visit Julia Pfeiffer State Beach in Big Sur (if there is time!):

So I wish you all a wonderful long Labor Day Weekend! I will be back on Monday....late.
