i love camping!
nothing feels better than waking up in the middle of mother natures wonderous creation outdoors on a hot summer day with nothing but fresh air all around you... but as much as i'm a nature girl, i love to curl up into a comfy warm bed at night and to a hot cup of tea that i can drink in my favorite oversized mug i don't like to keep anywhere else but out of harms way. things i would have never brought to a camp ground before i saw this.
the Air Stream

this wonderful creation will allow any nature lover to enbrace their wild carefree side while allowing those who appreciate stove top kitchens and warm comfy beds over rocky floors and a sleeping bag to join in on the action.
this is perfect for my husband and i. i being the one who loves dirty floors and rocks in my back and my husband who prefers homecooked meals and a flushable bathroom.

(And yes, I'm trying to post more these days. I know, a blog with daily posts?? What a concept.)

11/10/2008, 11:05 | Original Site: absolutely beautiful thingsTo begin this week I would like to thank you all {my lovely readers} for your lovely comments you have been sending me when I post pictures of my work. It's very intimidating posting pictures of your work and sometimes I brace myself ready to accept some bad comments as I know my work isn't everyone's cup of tea and sometimes I think you must all get tired of seeing these pictures!! But you are all very kind and encouraging so I would just like to thank you so much for your kindness and support.
I would also like to thank Liberty Post Editor for the extremely kind post she did on me today. Wow, I was so honored to be included in her Australia Week posts!!
Here's to another Happy Week for us all!

: : it's been a week since we returned from Sweden already. I look at the photos every day wishing I was still sitting on the dock by the sauna with my feet in the water. the two weeks we did spend at home were wonderful! .Iz. spoke Swedish the whole time! He deserves an award. There were family olympic tournaments, croquet championships, water ballet, sailing, kayaking, tennis, golf. And a lot of time spent eating and drinking, enjoying the company of relatives and friends. I will share more photos soon. This past week of work has been very hectic though and I've barely unpacked my suitcase.I'm hoping for a few more weeks of sunny warm weather here in Boston, summer ain't over yet!
Julia Rothman for Hygge & West
00/00/0000, 00:00 | Original Site: decor8I was pleased when Julia Rothman wrote in earlier this week to tell me about her wallpaper. I’ve been very busy over the past few days and haven’t been reading as many blogs as usual so I’m not sure if this made the blog rounds already. If so, my apologies for repeat content.
I’m so proud of Julia as I think her eye is outstanding and her style is superb, I think she is one of those designers who is very blessed with not only listening to her own voice and acting on it to pull together her patterns, but her designs just so happen to be extremely marketable. Isn’t this what every creative person hopes, that what they see in their brain that is then translated into a product will be something others will potentially buy? Julia is very lucky in this way and I feel happy to watch her growing as a designer all of time thanks to determination and hard work. Her latest project happens to be hand screened (made in Chicago) wallpaper, no longer do you have to dream of having her patterns cover your walls as it is now a reality. Aren’t these drool inducing? Learn more about them and see all of the colorways and patterns available at Hygge & West for $125 per double roll.
By the way, have you heard of Hygge & West before or is this the first time? For me it is the first time so a special thanks to Julia for the introduction. They have products from many other talented designers as well, here are a few that I enjoy.
1. Wallpaper ceramic votive set by Jeanette Hiiri, 2. Casalinga birds (they look like my vintage birds shown here in my living room), 3. Fiducia set designed by Louise Campbell for Kahler, and 4. Rachel Pearson candles.
Visit Hygge & West here to see more wonderful things for the home (click on the designers names on the right side of this page.)

magilicious day
00/00/0000, 00:00 | Original Site: studio wellspring
today i'm celebrating my dear friend maggie ~ all gorgeous 6 feet of her! i celebrate her & our friendship more than she knows, but seeing as how today is her birthday and all, it deserves an extra special mention that she is a continual source of reasons to celebrate. her enthusiasm and beauty are so invigorating and her ability to listen and be supportive are so encouraging. she lights up rooms, brightens up lives, and illuminates the humorous in everything. i am so grateful for her friendship and can't wait to see what wonderful things the coming year will bring her. happy maggilicious day ~ she'd be so happy to know you did a little dance, played extra with your favorite pet, & hugged several people you care about today just because it's magilicious day. xo, maggie love!Swedish weddings

A few words from Sidedown: For us, this election is about our right as American citizens to choice. We want to live in a country that accepts its people... ALL of them. A country that believes in the U.S. Constitution and Declaration of Independence as they pertain to the freedom of all who reside here, and that does not discriminate against its citizens on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, religious creed, social status, or station.
We do not believe this is a matter of Democrat vs. Republican. When Abraham Lincoln became our first Republican president, he redefined the way our nation saw itself, and reshaped what it meant to be "an American". If one lawyer, Illinois statesman, and member of Congress can do as much for the country as he did, we'd like to see what a second one can do.
Both candidates will tell you that in November, you have a choice to make. Only one of them would allow you to make choices after the election is over. That's why you should tell them to "Make Mine Barack".

**HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE! : )

00/00/0000, 00:00 | Original Site: BluelinesRecently I had the pleasure of working with photographer Kate Mathis again.
I met Kate years ago when i first started as an prop stylist assistant and have enjoyed her company and work ever since.
Many of you may recognize her work from the Martha Stewart product packaging photography. She shot both the craft line for Michaels to the Macy's collection.
Kate can take images like the simple paper flowers below to the sublime level.
With a discerning eye for composition and impeccable perspective and lighting, it's always a pleasure to be on set with Kate.
Below are a few shots from our most recent collaboration. (Food styling by Megan Schlow.) You can also look at her online portfolio for inspiration.

I blogged Israeli industrial designer Yael Falk's (aka Etsy seller YooLa) delicate crocheted wire creations not too long ago, but I'm nuts about her new pendant lights (like the Pomegranate Lampshade, above, $90).
I love the webbed shadows the lights cast -- crazy cool.
Scheherazade Lampshade, $180Each shade comes with a brass halogen light socket and a 78-inch electrical cord. Click here to see all of YooLa's Etsy offerings.
making friday fresh with beatrice peltre
00/00/0000, 00:00 | Original Site: studio wellspring
beatrice peltre is the author of the award-winning food blog la tartine gourmand and she works as a freelance food writer, food stylist and food photographer. she has a fantastic eye for making beautiful images and her passion for her work is evident in her myriad successes. i adore her work and find it incredibly inspiring.
i have a dear friend who is going through some serious soul searching to decide what course she wants her life to take next. she's been a school teacher for many years now but the lack of funding, growing restrictions & tensions, and lack of support from parents & administrators alike has taken its toll and yet another fantastic public school teacher in california is ready to call it quits. but what to do instead? where to turn? one must make a living. . . . . but how can that be done while also adoring what you do?
i think the answer lies within beatrice peltre's fine example. she loves art, she loves to travel, she loves photography, she loves food, and she loves sharing beauty. plus she's so gosh darn talented she can't help herself but to be admired. hmmm. . . . that sounds familiar. this perfectly describes my teacher, soul-searching friend. to a t. and we can all learn something from this actually ~ let's feel encouraged to pursue our passions and not give up trying to earn a decent living while we do so. it is possible. if beatrice can then so can you.
hope you have a pursuit of passions weekend my friends!

As much as I hate being the star struck fan, we had to stop and talk to him. With a cig in one hand he brought out his other to shake ours and we stood for a good few minutes just standing around chatting it up as if he wasn't one of my favorite actors of all time!!!
I know I won't be able to watch anymore movies this week, but man does the city start buzzing when TIFF starts up. Anyone else have any encounters with celebs this week???
Family Leave
00/00/0000, 00:00 | Original Site: k styleMy mother is undergoing a very serious health crisis and so I will be taking a leave from Kstyle until she is stable and back on her feet. I am happy to report that she got through major surgery today and wanted her ipod and of course had to stay awake to watch the latest episode of American Idol. Now given that she is 81 I can only hope that I have half her meddle down the road. Anyway I will be leaving soon to visit her and help in her recovery so I will only be in sporadic touch until this has settled down. So think good thoughts for my mom. Talk soon

One of my favorite parts of Julia Reed's book, Ham Biscuits, Hostess Gowns, and Other Southern Specialties: An Entertaining Life,

Professional food grade, grease proof waxed tissue is available in an array of colors at Fancy Flours online retail shop.I'll probably be addressing my cards and packages with a simple pen, but if you are inclined to use convenient printed mailing labels, iomoi has such pretty choices. To celebrate The First Emperor, I selected a chinoiserie label, above second from the top. The gift tags are from Kate Spade and the ribbon can be found at M & J.
Here are two different approaches to making bourbon balls: a recipe adapted by Louisvillian Jennifer Ahearn. And a version made for the Tennessee premiere party for Cameron Crowe's Elizabethtown. I will add that my grandmother used far more bourbon than the caterers did.
Click here for an interactive map of legendary Southern foods with companion story written by John T. Edge or go directly to McEntyre's for the cheese straws.
While we're on the subject of gift wrap, look at the sumptuous mix of colors and patterns used by Jayson Home. As you can read, free shipping is offered through December.

One of my favorite stores in New York is Todd Alexander Romano Antiques and Decorations. Not only is Todd charming and friendly, but he has the type of style and flair that I hope to aspire to someday! Todd has recently traded up to bigger quarters in The Fine Arts Building on E. 59th., and I'm dying to visit the new shop in person. Todd and his assistant Nicole sent me some photos of the new digs to tide me over until my next trip to New York. But after seeing these images, I'm really thinking that I need to hightail it up there. Anyone care to join me?
(If you live in New York or are planning to visit there soon, make sure to stop by Todd's shop. The new location is The Fine Arts Building, 232 East 59th St., 4th floor. Tel. 212-421-7722.)

Mark Your Calendar: Diem Chau and Danielle Giudici Wallis at Mark Wolfe Contemporary
00/00/0000, 00:00 | Original Site: More Ways to Waste Tim
Opening tonight, November 6, at Mark Wolfe Contemporary Art in San Francisco: Simultaneous solo exhibitions from Seattle's Diem Chau and local sculptor Danielle Giudici Wallis.
Chau (previously blogged here), creates incredibly intricate and beautiful embroidered china and impossibly tiny and delicate carvings from crayons and pencils. Her work "drifts into new territory by exploring the periphery of the narrative, moments forgotten and faded, or too brief to retain." I simply think it's breathtaking.
Giudici Wallis's "surrealistic sculptural works explore 'place' and domesticity through the use of architectural references," toying with "the distance between private and public, interior and exterior, and physical versus psychological space."
The shows will be up at Mark Wolfe through December 24. Click here for more information.
