Life & Style Magazine...

00/00/0000, 00:00 | Original Site: MadeByGirl
I've never been in a tabloid style magazine, but I know so many people read them. I love to open them when I'm waiting in line at the supermarket, mostly to see what celebs are wearing. I can't help it, I LOVE fashion! This time I opened it & there I was, part of the "Top 10 Custom Shopping Sites" for best art! I was aware I was going to be in the next issue, but I was so busy this weekend, I totally forgot. Thank you to Life & Style Weekly for having MadeByGirl in your issue.

Ondine Karady is most likely a familiar name to many of you. She was on season 2 of Top Design, and was a set decorator on Sex and the City, which she left to open her own boutique design firm in Soho. Her style is funky and eclectic, and her portfolio is full of wonderful spaces filled with bold patterns, mid century and vintage furnishings and fun colours.

Planning Ahead, Week II

00/00/0000, 00:00 | Original Site: style court

One of my favorite parts of Julia Reed's book, Ham Biscuits, Hostess Gowns, and Other Southern Specialties: An Entertaining Life, is the description of her grandparents pulling up the driveway in December in a gray Cadillac overflowing with chess pies and silver-and-gold-wrapped presents. (Not to mention kitchen counters laden with tins of cayenne pepper-laced cheese straws.) Substitute a Buick for the Cadillac, add several dozen bourbon balls, and the memory is almost an exact match for my own.

If you are thinking about giving homemade food this year, there are some great recipes and festive ideas in Julia's book. Stylish presentation options abound too: The Container Store sells crisp white food-safe tins that would look good with a red grosgrain ribbon, or stripes or traditional plaid. If you prefer gold or silver tins, try Specialty Bottle. The selection here is vast.

Professional food grade, grease proof waxed tissue is available in an array of colors at Fancy Flours online retail shop.

I'll probably be addressing my cards and packages with a simple pen, but if you are inclined to use convenient printed mailing labels, iomoi has such pretty choices. To celebrate The First Emperor, I selected a chinoiserie label, above second from the top. The gift tags are from Kate Spade and the ribbon can be found at M & J.

Here are two different approaches to making bourbon balls: a recipe adapted by Louisvillian Jennifer Ahearn. And a version made for the Tennessee premiere party for Cameron Crowe's Elizabethtown. I will add that my grandmother used far more bourbon than the caterers did.

Click here for an interactive map of legendary Southern foods with companion story written by John T. Edge or go directly to McEntyre's for the cheese straws.

While we're on the subject of gift wrap, look at the sumptuous mix of colors and patterns used by Jayson Home. As you can read, free shipping is offered through December.

Jayson's blue paper dove ornaments are hard to resist.

More Gumdale House

11/07/2008, 10:04 | Original Site: absolutely beautiful things
This is the family/casual dining area {above & below}. We used white painted Chippendale dining chairs which we upholstered in a navy & white ticking.

This is a little area at the base of the staircase which we had panelled.

These are the drapes in the Main Bedroom. We purchased the Antique French timber chandelier from a dealer in Melbourne.

A pretty little section of the kitchen {above & below}.

This is an area in the Master Bathroom. We sourced the antique mirror for the client and had it painted white. I love how the mirror itself is yellowing with age. I told the client she needs to get some pretty little vases with fresh flowers and some little tea light candles and put them on the little shelves on the mirror!!

Well it seems another week has gotten the better of me!! I can't believe it's the weekend already!!

To end this week I thought I would share some more pictures of the Gumdale House with you as it progresses. We are still working on the finishing touches so once they are all done I'll be sure to post lots of images of the entire house.

I would like to note that I worked on this job with the client from frame stage. We performed our full interior design and decorating service on this home. Throughout the project I worked very closely with the client as she had many ideas of her own and provided an excellent brief. Specifically I provided specifications for tile selection and layout, cabinetry design, cabinetry handle selection, paint colours, architrave & cornice selection, internal door design, tapware selection, decorative lighting selection and other general finishes. The client has taken only a few pieces of her old furniture into the home with the rest either sourced or custom made and designed by myself with the client.

I spent an hour with the client this afternoon and I finally got to sit down in one of the beautiful armchairs and look at everything we had achieved. It's just such a lovely feeling looking at your work, being proud of it and having a very happy client. That's the most important thing of all....having a happy client!!

Happy Weekend!!

I wish I could afford these pieces! Such a beautiful take on scientific glassware by Esque.

I also love the logo, which I think is new(ish)--reminds me of the logic behind Vignelli's design of the Bloomingdale's logo which takes advantage of the circular forms of the letters. Picture 5

i'm a little slow on the announcement band wagon for spreading the word on a story of tragedy and incredible human compassion for one of our fellow blogging friends. this is a story that has stuck with me all week ~ i can't stop thinking about it actually, so i am sorry for being late on bringing this up on studio wellspring ~ but it's not too late for it to be useful.
a lovely woman and delightful blogger, stephanie nielson and her husband christian were in a very serious plane crash last week. they are a young couple with four children under the age of six. they are in critical condition with a very long & very expensive recovery ahead of them. stephanie has third degree burns covering 80% of her body and christian has third degree burns over 30% of his body. the outreach to help them has been so inspirational, and you can be a part of it too! online auctions are all over the blogiverse to help them with the expenses and there's a fund you can contribute to directly as well.
as of yesterday, 300 websites & blogs are auctioning off some super wonderful items for the family's benefit, in all price ranges. go here to see the comprehensive list: http://www.designmom.com/ . i've included photos from some of the items to tantilize you into jumping over & bidding.
if you are able, please consider contributing to this fund that will go directly to the family. http://www.nierecovery.com/

AT Fall Colors Contest

mamma mia!!

00/00/0000, 00:00 | Original Site: red.house

: : I've seen the movie .mamma mia. twice now. I'm a Swede, that's enough of an excuse. *smile*
I loved the movie! the music is great; of course, my Swedish friend and I sang along in every song. The actors are great; .Meryl Streep. really carries the movie, .Pierce Brosnan. is terrible at singing, but brave for trying, .Mr Darcy. my all time favorite is very lovable even in this movie, and the one Swede in the movie .Stellan SkarsgĂĄrd. adds a lot of humor.

In addition to all this I was LOVIN' all the attention on Swedish Design in the movie. An overwhelming amount of beautiful .Josef Frank fabrics., but even the cross stitching details on Meryl Streep's bed cover, the stitching on her dresses, the colors......everything reminded me of Sweden.

Lastly, it was filmed at what must be one of the most beautiful place on earth, the Greek island of .Skopelos., which is probably getting invaded by mamma mia fans as I am writing this. the photos above are a few of my flickr favorites of the island.

So Sorry - No Post

00/00/0000, 00:00 | Original Site: Hatch: The Design Public® Blo

Oops, I missed my plane yesterday. No, it wasn’t the time change, Delta changed my flight by an hour and did not notify me about the change. I was actually there in time, but the same people who work the Delta desk in Charlottesville also board the people on the plane, so there was no one there to help me. Then I got to go rent another car, even though I had paid for me car through today. Thanks a lot Avis! Apparently, it was fate that I stay in C-ville another night and visit with my friends and get those yummy margaritas at Continental Divide that are only $6. Charlottesville is the best, and if you have a chance to get there within a week or so, I can’t recommend it enough - the leaves are just about at peak color!

A new found respect for....

Coffinier Ku Design, Ltd. was founded in 1998 as Etienne Coffinier Design to bring a French-trained expertise in architecture and interior design to the United States market. The firm specializes in high-end residential and restaurant projects primarily in the greater New York area. Designs is based in the classicism of French design but with surprising contemporary influences and concentrates strongly on custom design both architecturally as well as in all furnishings.

I absolutely adore the window treatment, the soft puddling on the ground luminated by a glow from above from the coved inset along the window frame. Sheer elegance!

This kitchen is not only my favorite color - white, but it also has great banquette seating tucked away off to the side.
